The
URMAP Program was designed to assist minority and hard-to-serve participants in
their quest to navigate the Union maze to become members of Trade and Labor
Unions nationwide.
Our training will produce participants that are “Ready to Employ” in the world
of construction, regardless of their field of choice. A portion of our
curriculum is designed to eliminate barriers that prevent persons from becoming
self-sufficient and successful in the work place as well as everyday
living.
URMAP staff is constantly working to enhance the overall success of the program
to better serve our participants and all communities involved.

URMAP accepted 18 people into the 2010-2011 class. We Fast tracked 2 people bringing our total to 20 that was accepted. Over a period of 12 months 3 participants dropped out of the program. We had 17 participants graduate June 11, 2011 All 17 Graduates are working full time Jobs. URMAP's 2010-2011 retention rate exceeded 81%. Over 60% of our graduates where ex-offenders. The URMAP program taught the participants how to obtain and keep a Job. This was no easy feat to obtain in a city with the 4 highest un-employment and is number 1 in the state of Illinois for sending people to prison. (1900 per 78,000)
URMAP wants to once again thank the families who came out to support the graduates. The road was hard but well worth it. |

We always strive to perfect and improve the program since its inception in 2007, so we decided to invite all past and present URMAP participants to attend a Design Charette on Saturday, April 26, 2011. Our focus was to get the participants involved and find out what ideas they have to enhance the success of URMAP. We received plenty of feedback and information from the participants and other supporting volunteers for the
betterment of the program. State Rep. Adam Brown was also in attendance and showed his support by eagerly participating and providing his input and ideas as well.
In addition to all the feedback given by the attendees, all participants were able to speak on their own personal successes that URMAP has provided to them. We are proud to announce that all but 1 of our participants involved on Saturday are gainfully employed! This was also a perfect opportunity for our 2007 participants to meet with our current participants and share their experiences with each other as well as get to know one another on a personal level.
URMAP staff is ready and eager to implement these new ideas into our next class session. Our philosophy at URMAP is to use the ideas of staff, as well as our current and past participants, to refine the URMAP program.
We look forward to the continual transformation of lives and communities with the use of the URMAP program!
